Former
Street Musicians to Play for Speaker Pelosi, President Bush,
and Ireland's Taoiseach Bertie Ahern on St. Patrick's Day
WASHINGTON,
DC - The Washington DC-based Celtic-flavored world music group
Scythian announced today that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has asked
the group to perform for President Bush and Ireland's Taoiseach
Bertie Ahern as part of a St. Patrick's Day celebration hosted
by Speaker Pelosi.
Scythian
will join the ranks of musicians such as The Corrs, Bono, James
Galway, Altan, and Moya Brennan of Clannad, who have played at
previous St. Patrick's Day receptions on Capitol Hill. This performance
comes near the end of a six-day stretch packed with St. Patrick's
Day events with the band performing 7 shows in 4 cities between
Wednesday and Monday.
Scythian
is a group of classically trained musicians who went from performing
(or "busking") on the streets of Old Town Alexandria
in 2002 to playing some of the largest music festivals in the
US in 2006 and 2007. The majority of 2008 will be spent on tour
in the US, and July brings their debut on the international stage
with an appearance at World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Australia.
Known
for their energetic live performances and onstage charisma, the
members of Scythian will trek up and down the I-95 corridor twice
in the coming week for performances at black-tie galas in Washington
DC and New York City, shows in Philadelphia and Baltimore, and
a kickoff performance at DC's ShamrockFest, held at RFK Stadium.
Immediately following the performance for the President, the band
will race to catch a train to Manhattan where they will entertain
a massive throng of revelers for 5 hours at Stout NYC; a 26,000
square foot pub near Times Square. By the end of the week, Scythian
will have played for US Senators, foreign dignitaries, celebrity
entertainers (including Conan O'Brien), the Taoiseach of Ireland,
and the President of the United States.
