How
many people attended last year's Masquerade Ball?
In
each of the last two years, we've had over 950 people to usher
in the New Year at the Carnegie Library in Washington, DC. We've
moved the event to the beautiful Stotesbury Mansion in the heart
of Philadelphia. Unfortunately, maximum comfortable capacity has
shrunk to 250, so needless to say, we're expecting to sell out
this year. But the plus side is that it will make for a much more
intimate party. So we highly suggest that you order tickets as
soon as possible.
Why
is The Masquerade in Philadelphia this year instead of Washington,
DC?
2
reasons: first, our venue, the Carnegie Library, went defunct,
and b), we would like the Masquerade to be a moving event, especially
since many of our revelers are from all over the hemisphere, and
4), it helps keep things crispy fresh.
How
do I go about getting tickets for the event?
Tickets
go on sale at 12pm on Nov. 1st. How fast they sell out
is anyone's guess, so try to secure them right away for peace
of mind. The best way to get tickets is by ordering online through
our safe and secure online "Click n' Print" ticketing
agency. You can also call and order over the phone at 800.595.4849.
Just be sure to mention the "Mad, Mad, Masquerade."
Tickets will be on sale online until 12pm, Dec. 31st. After
that, all purchases will have to be made at the door, though
we highly doubt this option will be available considering the
size of the venue. All purchases are final and non-refundable.
Are
there any deals I can get on lodging?
Funny
you ask. Scythian has struck a deal with the Embassy Suites
in Center City Philadelphia which will give a discount rate to
anyone who books a suite while mention the Mad, Mad, Masquerade.
The fellas picked the Embassy Suites because of the location
(just blocks away from the New Year's Day Mummers Parade) and
the bang you get for your buck. Each suite offers either a king
size bed or two doubles, has a separate living room with a fold
out couch, wet bar area, TV, and plenty of move around space.
Although designed for two, each suite can hold up to five for
those of you trying to pinch pennies. PLUS, complimentary breakfast
and cocktail hour before the ball. And best of all,
we'll all be afterpartying in the same spot! Click
here for more information.
Will
my ticket be mailed to me?
Through
the click and print feature, you can conveniently print your ticket
at home and bring it with you to the event. If you prefer to have
your tickets mailed to you, you can choose that option at the
time of purchase. Deadline for tickets by mail is Dec. 17th. Event
admittance will be conducted via scanners, which will eliminate
any registration lines so that you can get to your revelry sooner.
There will be will-call for those who ordered via phone.
I'm
from out of town - can I get to the mansion conveniently using
public transportation?
Because the mansion is located in the cultural center of town,
public transportation abounds. You can catch a train to Market
East Station, just blocks away. And if you're taking the Chinatown
bus, it drops you off at Market East. Amtrak rolls into 30th Street
Station, which is less than a mile away and only 1 stop from Market
East Station.
Is
this a black tie event only?
No,
the Masquerade is black-tie optional, though we strongly encourage
you to dress to the nine's, whether in costume or black-tie -
definitely be sure to bring a mask. Over 900 people dressed and
masked created quite the party atmosphere last year!
What
time do the doors open?
Doors
open at 8:00pm.
Is
there open bar?
Yes,
beer, wine, liquor and champagne toast and as much as you care
to drink. We ask that everyone drink responsibly and conduct themselves
in as reasonable a fashion as can be expected for a New Year's
ball. A fine menu of heavy hor d'oerves, dessert and coffee will
also be served throughout the night, with vegetarian option.
Do
I need to spend money on dinner before I arrive?
Only
if you're frivolous. There will be a sumptuous meal provided,
buffet style. It won't be a sit down dinner but that doesn't mean
you can't get your fill. You can check
out what's on the menu here...
Will
I see a spider monkey riding on a rhino's back?
No.
That's a stupid question. How in blazes did you get into the FAQ's?
What
time should I arrive?
Ah,
the age old dilemma: Doors open at 8:00pm. Its up to you how much
bang for you want to get from this sumptuous event.
What
do I do for parking?
In
addition to street parking, there are public parking lots available
in several proximate locations, such as across the street, behind
the mansion, and a parking garage just off Rittenhouse Square.
Will
there be coat check?
Yes,
we will provide a complimentary coat check. Tipping the staff
is encouraged.
How
much can we expect to see the Scythian lads playing?
This
year Scythian will be playing 2 long sets so there will be plenty
of music to throw bar stools to.
