We're finally back from our southern jaunt to North Carolina - 15 shows in 14 days! Pretty eventful 14 days at that - Dan got hit by a car in Boone, we got a flat in Asheville, we got stuck in the mud twice and jack-knifed our trailer at the Shakori Hills rain fest, we forgot our bass in Charlotte, a wheel sheared off our trailer while going 70mph, bolts and all, just outside Merlefest, and Joey and Lex forgot to go to sleep twice. Despite the string of bad luck, it was really an amazing tour and we really feel that, much like Dan'l Boone said before us, North Carolina is the new frontier for Scythian.

As great as things were, nothing beats being home for a spell so we're happy to be in the general DC area for a spell, with shows in DC, Baltimore and Philly area. oh yeah and New York. Here's how the rundown looks:

Thursday, May 8th: Return to Fado Thursday! - 2 months since last we met at Fado! Has it been so long? Forget about that camping trip you had foolishly planned and head into the city for the always unexpected chaos that only a reckless Thursday night can bring. To celebrate our return, as well as Cinco de Mayo, the 23rd person through the door gets a cash prize of 2,300 pesos. Show start 930pm. (Located directly across from the Chinatown Metro stop). Visit website.

Friday, May 9th: Mick O'Shea's (Baltimore MD) - What in the hell happened last time Baltimore? We leave for a few weeks and you have to go and turn the place upside down. Over 300 crazed barn dancers at the hootenanny and we had, simply put, our best show at Mick's ever. Hoping on a repeat of the mayhem so call all your friends and tell 'em there's trouble in the city tonight. If you don't have any friends, invite the ones from MySpace - I think they count. Show starts at 10pm. Visit website for more details.

Saturday, May 10th - Special Show at Colonial Theater in Phoenixville (Philly area) - East of the Hebrides will be putting on a FREE Celtic street fair in Phoenixville, PA during the day and we'll be playing afterwards with the band Brother for a special show in the historic theater. Put on by the same folks of the Midwinter Scottish Festival and the Fernwood Scottish Festival, this should prove to be a great time. Hope you can join us! The show will be a ticketed event and starts at 730pm, doors open at 630. You can find ticket info and beyond at the website here...

Saturday, May 17th: Stout NYC - recently dubbed "New York's Temple to the Irish Pint", Stout NYC has been welcoming an ever growing flock of faithful to its taps. Last show out in April, we had over 600 crazed revelers on hand. Each show seems to trump the last and we're definitely looking forward to seeing what lies in store for us this time around. Show starts at 10pm - 133 West 33rd St, New York, NY. Just one block from Madison Square Garden. (website).

In other news:

The President and the Pope in the same year! Scythian has been officially invited to play at this July at World Youth Day '08 in Sydney, Australia! Over 500,000 youth from all over the world will be traveling to Australia to see the Pope and the powers that be caught wind of Scythian's energy and thought it would be a good idea to throw us in front of a crowd of over 100,000 people - TWICE! We're pumped to be doing our first overseas show on such a large stage, and also playing for the Pope is quite the humdinger. Anyway, due to the non-profit nature of the event, we can't be paid and have to raise all the travel expenses ourselves. And at over $2,000 per ticket alone, it'll be quite the bagful. So we're asking anyone of you all who might be able to help us in any way for a drop in the collection plate. All our success has been thru grass roots help and rather than go for corporate sponsorship, we'd rather have the help of those who have gotten us here in the first place. If you would like to help us in any way (shake up your couch), we have set up a way where your donation would be tax deductible through our friends, FCCO, a non-profit Christian association. Make check payable to:

Thanks for your help ya'll!

Scythian gets prime time at Summerfest! - On Saturday, July 5th Scythian will be ringin in Independence weekend in Milwaukee opening for phenoms Rodrigo y Gabriella (watch video). The duo has taken the US by storm and are known for their high-energy shows and dynamic musicianship. Last year Scythian lit the crowd up at Summerfest while opening for Guster and so the powers that be deemed them a perfect opener for Rodrigo y Gabriella. The show will take place on the Briggs & Stratton Stage and starts @ 8pm. If you want a decent spot you should show up several hours early because the 10,000 person plus area fills up quickly. Click here for official website.

And we just got a great blog review for our show in Charlotte at the Evening Muse - check it out HERE...
